AO4ELT8, the 8th edition of the Adaptive Optics for Extremely Large Telescopes Conference set to take place in Chile in October 2025.

Following the successful 7th edition of the AO4ELT Conference in Avignon, France, it was decided that the next edition will be hosted by the Optoelectronics Laboratory (Optolab) at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso in Chile. This is a significant opportunity to bring research closer to the actual locations of the Extremely Large Telescopes.

About AO4ELT

Extremely Large Telescope. Image propety: ESO.

Adaptive Optics (AO) is one of the major challenges facing future Extremely Large Telescopes (ELTs), crucial for achieving their scientific goals in terms of accuracy and sensitivity.

It is essential for the entire scientific community working on this topic to gather and share ideas about the latest advances in this field. This is made possible through the biennial Adaptive Optics for Extremely Large Telescopes conference, held every two years since 2009.

AO4ELT8 Main Topics:

  • ELT Science with AO
  • Current Designs of ELT AO Systems
  • AO Pathfinders and New Concepts
  • Characterization of Input Disturbances
  • Wavefront Sensing
  • AO Simulation, Reconstruction, and Control
  • Wavefront Correctors
  • Post-Processing of AO Data

Location

With Optolab joining the organization team and hosting the conference, the event will be held in the coastal city of Viña del Mar, Chile, close to where Optolab is located. The conference will take place from October 26th to 31st, 2025. We hope to see you there!
